On June 4th, the Yeshiva held its annual scholarship event, the Yissochur Zevulun Partnership event, at the beautiful home of Rob Schwartz and Vicki Trachten-Schwartz. The event was co-chaired by Mr. and Mrs. Zvi Gelt and Mrs. Andrea Hyatt. The audience was inspired and captivated by two guest speakers Alumnus Mr. Heshie Schertz and friend of YTC Mr. Gary Torgow. The event was attended by nearly 100 close patrons and donors of YTC and helped raise much needed dollars for the Jack Hyatt Scholarship fund for our students.

Heshie Schertz, Managing Member of SRI Real Estate Group LLC, has over 30 years of experience as a real estate professional, excelling in a broad range of roles including acquisition, asset management, disposition, project management, leasing and redevelopment of different types of real estate including office, multifamily and retail. As a former CPA at the firm of Oppenheim Appel Dixon & Co. Heshie was a former Asset Manager at Merrill Lynch Hubbard. He holds a Bachelor’s degree with Honors in Accounting and Economics from Yeshiva University and a Masters in Business Administration from Pace University. Heshie is an active board member of the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach. He is very active in AIPAC & NORPAC. Heshie attended Yeshiva Toras Chaim from 1973-1977 and is the proud recipient of this year’s Jack Hyatt Alumni Leadership Award.

Gary Torgow, Chairman of Huntington National Bank, is also the Founder of the Sterling Group, a Michigan-based real estate and development, investment company. Gary is Chairman of the Mosaic United Steering Committee, an Israeli Jewish Initiative for the benefit of the Diaspora Jewry. Gary currently also serves on the board of DTE Energy Company, serves as a director of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and is a Trustee of the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan. Gary is the current President of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit Executive Board, serves on the board of the Pope Francis Center, and is the President of Michigan’s largest Jewish day school, the Yeshiva Beth Yehudah. Gary is also the Chairman of the Michigan CEO Roundtable, Business Leaders of Michigan. Gary has won numerous awards, is the author of two books, and has spoken at several leading institutions. Gary is a graduate of Wayne State University School of Law.
